Meet Our Executive Team

Michael Fowler

President

Class of 2026

Major: Political Science, B.S.

Hometown: Sparta, New Jersey

What’s your outlook on the role of President?

Lion Caucus is a very young organization, but our mission and advocacy efforts are constantly growing both internally to Penn State students, and externally to legislators, alumni, and supporters. Over the next year, my vision for Lion Caucus is to increase our network within Penn
State, widen our advocacy efforts to encompass more Penn State-centric policies, and provide programming to educate students not only in the realm of Penn State advocacy, but also in civic engagement as a whole. Through collaboration with entities in Penn State, as well as intentional and innovative advocacy initiatives, I see the future of Lion Caucus as one with a wider overall impact, and a higher status at all Penn State campuses.

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

Being an out-of-state student, I was driven to Penn State due to the alumni network, the resources available to students, and the opportunities that are available to all neatly-100,000 students of the University statewide. I advocate for Penn State to help ensure that these
opportunities continue to be available to students, and that higher education as a whole is more easily accessible to residents of the Commonwealth, and the world.

Andrew Jackson

Vice-President, Advocacy Committee Chair

Class of 2025

Major: Political Science / Smeal College of Business Certificate

Hometown: Greencastle, PA

What’s your outlook for VP and Advocacy Committee?

This organization is young but has grown significantly in my time at Penn State. I believe this is because students, alumni, and university stakeholders are beginning to see our impact. As Vice President of Lion Caucus, I want to work to strengthen and elevate our collective voices that
advocate for fairer Penn State appropriations. Through the work of the Advocacy Committee, I plan to build an advocacy plan that reaches all corners of the Penn State community and one that resonates with legislators.

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

Being a resident of the Commonwealth for the past 16 years, I have had the chance to see the impact Penn State has on its broader community. Coming to Penn State in 2021, I saw this on display firsthand. Penn State has awarded me with unique opportunities, like Lion Caucus, that I will never forget. As a third-year student at Penn State, I have been lucky enough to attend this
University. I want to ensure that more students across the commonwealth and country can partake in these same opportunities.

Mark Brown

Secretary

Class of 2027

Major: Political Science

Hometown: Cedar Park, Texas

How do you see the role of Secretary?

AAs a member of the Lion Caucus Executive Board, success as a Secretary begins with alignment and leadership. Fostering a community promoting collaboration and advancement of priorities where organizational bonding is cultivated, new member orientation is enhanced, and
member retention strengthens our impact.

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

We are one voice, for one Penn State. Advocacy demonstrates the ability to move an idea to and through a process leading to change. Change results in impact. I advocate for Penn State to influence and inspire positive impact. I advocate to bridge the gap between what is and what should be. I advocate as a representation of the people, for the people.

Jay Mattis

Director of Outreach

Class of 2024

Major: Architectural Engineering

Hometown: Delmon, PA.

How do you see the role of Director of Outreach?

BI am eager to enhance our organization and expand our presence on campus through increased outreach efforts. The work the Lion Caucus does has the ability to affect everyone on campus, and I hope to inform them about the work being done and how they can join in. This year, my
objectives include bolstering our membership base, building upon our newsletter, connecting with other campus organizations, and collaborating closely with the Lion Caucus Advocacy Committee to amplify the voices of our fellow Penn State students.

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

I advocate for Penn State because it is my family. Growing up, I was raised a Penn State fan through and through. I have witnessed the profound impact that the University has on its students, community, state, and nation. When I learned that Penn State was receiving significantly less funding compared to its counterparts, I knew I had to take action. I have always been taught to leave a place better than I found it, and through the Lion Caucus, I aspire to
leave Penn State in a better place than it was when I arrived.

Ella Jones

Director of Communications

Class of 2024

Major: Political Science

Hometown: Greensburg, PA

How do you see your role as Director of Communications?

Undertaking the position of Director of Communications, to me, means that I will be responsible for facilitating the engagement of others in our cause. I hope to create a
prevalent online presence for Lion Caucus within the Penn State community that draws in more advocates and more members for this organization. By reaching not only the
student body, but alumni and the community surrounding Penn State via social media, advocacy will become more than an idea, they will be compelled to act. Social media is
a wonderful tool that I plan to utilize for our mission, one that can hopefully create a lot of impact locally, and globally as we invest in new futures.

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

I advocate for Penn State for not only my future, but the futures of those who will come after me. Penn State is a nexus of opportunity and experiences that are priceless to a growing student and professional. The institution behind these experiences is reputable for a reason. As a student from Pennsylvania, the effects that Penn State has on this region, not to mention this country, are beyond evident. The pride that beams from any Penn State student or alumni can prove to anyone the importance of this place and this community. Advocating to maintain these experiences and this community comes as a natural instinct when you understand the tangible effects.

Cristina Mac Cormac

Treasurer

Class of 2027

Major: Political Science & Economics

Hometown: Lake Zurch, IL

Why do you advocate for Penn State?

I advocate for Penn State on behalf of everyone who cannot advocate for themselves. The opportunities I have experienced here on campus have enabled me to develop my passions, and grow as a student, and everyday I am blessed by this. Financial limitations have stopped others from the opportunity to experience Penn State the way I have been able to, therefore I advocate to help others reach the same incredible experiences I have been blessed to, and to show the power of students advocating for students.

How do you see your role as treasurer?

Lion Caucus’s success has been derived from exposure, passion, and outreach. In order to utilize these facets to the best of our ability, I aim to use my role as Treasurer as an opportunity to provide as much funding as possible to bolster our advocacy efforts. I plan to increase our fundraisers, create financial partnerships, and utilize our social media accounts to expand our fundraising efforts. By doing so, I hope to allow Lion Caucus to develop our advocacy initiatives to our greatest potential, and to benefit the most students as possible.
